As we were walking home this evening, I noticed how dark it was. The reason I noticed the darkness was not because I couldn’t see, but because the street lamp that I walked under was extremely bright and caught my attention, seeing a sign posted on it. I looked up at it and as I tilted my head to take the picture you see here, I really felt the Lord enlighten me.
Our block has about 12 houses on both sides, which stretches about 80 meters long, about 240 feet. However, it has only two street lamps. Each household may have two to maybe six people living there, a potential total of 72 people on my block alone.
The enlightenment begins here. The two lights lit the entire block, even areas between the houses which were extremely dark. And what of the sign posted on the street lamp post? I don’t know the meaning of it because it was written in kanji, but the light was bright enough for me to make out the characters very clearly.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matt 5:16
God wants us all to be a light, bright enough to light our entire community, even if there are only one or two Christians on your block. With my family alone, that means four lights for Christ! And if the light is bright enough inside of us, people will see the Word of God written on our hearts very clearly.
I hope this spoke to you as it did me.
